Candela Alexandrite — no pigment drama

Old IPL and some diode systems risk temporary pigment change on upper-lip skin, especially on Mediterranean tones. The Candela Alexandrite, run with a patch test on the first visit, is the most-studied wavelength for Fitzpatrick II–IV. Almost zero post-treatment pigment surprises.

Hormone-driven facial hair? Nova doesn't charge twice

PCOS, perimenopause and hormonal therapy reactivate dormant follicles years after a 'complete' course. Most clinics charge per maintenance session. Nova's free repeat session covers it. This is the page's most-quoted reassurance for new PCOS clients.

Long-term

6 sessions

Stop the 4-week threading cycle

Most facial-hair clients arrive after years of waxing or threading every 3–4 weeks. 6–8 laser sessions and that cycle ends — ~80–90% long-term reduction means months, not weeks, between maintenance.

PRIVACY

1:1

Discreet, appointment-only care

One client per room, draped during prep, full privacy. Booking and consultation in calm Yeroskipou clinic — no walk-in chaos, no hurried sessions.

How it works

Your First Visit, Step by Step

A short, structured appointment — 10 minutes for most facial areas, with no rush and no surprises.

  1. 1

    Free consultation

Skin tone, hair colour, hormonal context (PCOS, hormonal therapy, perimenopause), photo-sensitive medications, recent skincare actives (retinoids, AHAs).

  2. 2

    Patch test

Standardised pulse on a hidden area (jaw line) to confirm fluence and pulse-width settings. Standard procedure, never skipped.

  3. 3

    Pre-session prep

Shave the area 12–24 hours before. Pause retinoids and chemical exfoliants 5 days before. Avoid sun and fake tan for 1 week before.

  4. 4

    The session

10 minutes per area. Most clients describe each pulse as a warm flick. Eye-safety goggles on throughout.

  5. 5

    Aftercare

Light moisturiser, SPF50 next day, no makeup for 24 hours, no retinoids for 5 days. Mild redness is normal.

  6. 6

    6 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart

Typical course gives ~80–90% long-term reduction. PCOS clients may want occasional top-ups — covered by the free repeat session.

Facial sessions are short — 10 min per area. Chain them after a Bikini or a manicure visit and make one trip.

What facial laser clients say about Nova

Upper lip, chin and face — clients who've made the switch from waxing and threading.

  • I've been threading my upper lip every 3 weeks for 10 years. After 4 sessions at Nova I haven't been back. The price is genuinely hard to beat in Paphos.

    Maria L.

    Upper Lip · 4 sessions

  • I have PCOS and was expecting to need ongoing paid maintenance like my previous clinic charged. The free repeat session at Nova is a real policy — they've honoured it twice and I've never been made to feel like it's an inconvenience.

    Sofia K.

    Face + Chin · PCOS · March 2026

  • The consultation flagged I was on a retinoid and they postponed by a week to let it clear. That level of care is unusual. The results after 5 sessions are well beyond what the threading ever achieved.

Frequently asked questions

Face & upper lip laser — common questions

Do I need a free consultation before my first session?

per session at Nova Laser & Beauty Clinic in Yeroskipou. Most clients need 6 sessions = ~ total course, vs every 3–4 weeks for waxing or threading (~/year ongoing). The Upper Lip is also the third service in the 40% bundle (Bikini + Underarms + Upper Lip = ).

Is laser safe on the upper lip and Mediterranean skin?

Yes. The Candela Alexandrite at 755 nm is the most-studied wavelength for Fitzpatrick II–IV (Mediterranean) skin. The historical risk of post-treatment pigment change on upper-lip skin came from older IPL/diode systems and untested settings. Nova runs a patch test on the first visit to confirm fluence and pulse-width.

Is laser safe with PCOS?

Yes — and Nova's free repeat session is built for it. PCOS hair is hormone-driven, so dormant follicles can re-activate after a 'complete' course. Top-up sessions at Nova are free. That's a meaningful long-term cost difference vs clinics that charge per maintenance visit.

Will laser remove peach fuzz?

Laser targets dark, terminal hair. Light, fine peach fuzz (vellus hair) lacks the melanin laser needs and does not respond well. We're honest about this at the consultation. For peach fuzz, dermaplaning is the alternative — not a Nova service, but we can refer.

How many sessions for upper lip or face laser?

6 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart is standard. Hormonally-driven facial hair (PCOS, perimenopause) often clears more slowly and may need occasional maintenance — covered by the free repeat session.

Can I have face laser if I'm on a retinoid?

Pause retinoids and chemical exfoliants for 5 days before any facial laser session. Active retinoid skin is more reactive to laser pulses and aftermath; pausing is a safety step, not optional.

Does face laser darken or lighten the skin?

Correctly calibrated Candela Alexandrite on Fitzpatrick II–IV skin does not change skin tone. The patch test is specifically what verifies this for your skin before any full session.

Can I have laser on my face during pregnancy?

Nova postpones laser during pregnancy as a precaution. Pregnancy hormones already disrupt hair cycles, so most clinics recommend resuming after birth. Breastfeeding is generally fine for face areas.
